The Morgan EV3 will be on display at the Geneva auto show in March. The electric three wheeler is based on the original Morgan but updated with a rear mounted electric motor from Potenza that produces 75 horsepower and 96 lb-ft of torque. Its has a top speed of 100 mph and goes 0-60 in 8.5 seconds. Range is 150 miles.
Jonathan Welles, Morgan’s design director, tells AutoCar, “You adapt to the noise of the wind and the sensation in place of the engine, and it’s exhilarating and impressive in different ways, not least because of the acceleration. The weight distribution is similar so it’s very familiar to handle, and you can disturb the rear wheel in a corner.”
Morgan already has 10 customers for the car and will use feedback from them to modify the prototype before regular production begins this summer. The company expects to build one EV3 a week.
Morgan expects the EV3 to attract younger buyers to its cars. Prices for the car have not been announced.
