An update to Tesla’s Summon feature allows drivers to activate the Summon self parking feature from inside the car without having to use the key fob or a smartphone app. But first the “continuous press” requirement Tesla just added has to be disabled.
That requirement came about because Consumer Reports noticed the car would continue to move if the owner accidentally dropped the key fob or the smartphone app unexpectedly stopped functioning during the Summon process.
The “continuous press” requirement was added to make sure the operator kept the car under constant visual surveillance during the operation to make sure the car did not run over small objects, pets, or children. Why Tesla would now make it possible to disable that safety feature just a week later is unclear.
